Volunteer Opportunities
(must be 16 years of age or older)
  1. Project Learn - This integrated after-school and summer technology learning enhancement experience consists of Homework Help and Tutoring as well as High-Yield Learning and Leisure Activities using traditional teaching and learning methodology. Volunteers are needed for tutoring and helping members with homework.
  2. Character Counts - This program helps members to build character and values in six key areas: trustworthiness, respect for others, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. Adult volunteers are needed to mentor members and provide a good role model for right and wrong.
  3. Keystone Clubs/Torch Clubs - It is extremely important to that we teach our members and especially our teens the importance of community service and caring for others this program stresses these values. Volunteers are needed to attend meetings and work with members in regard to Keystone Club and Torch Club activities.
  4. Mentoring Program - The purpose of the mentoring program is to have successful adults serve as positive role models for our youth members in a one on one setting. Our youth members need to know that they have adults that care about them. We ask that an adult mentor spend at least one hour a week for a minimum of 13 weeks meeting with the youth at the Club. Time can be spent talking, doing homework, playing games or participating in other Club programs. Mentors make arrangements with parents for activities outside the club,
  5. Coaching Club Members - The Clubs sometimes sponsor sporting events, martial arts, tennis, etc. Volunteers are needed to assist with these programs.
  6. Events - We have a number of community activities throughout the year, attracting a wide variety of individuals and corporations.  Events include the Steak & Burger Dinner, Golf Classic and Wine Down Main Street.  If you enjoy logistics, are creative or just want to help, we would love to have you!
  7.  Field Trip Support   Field trips are an integral part of Boys & Girls Clubs programming. We could use your help to keep our children safe while they are outside of the building.

Volunteer Requirements

  • 16 years of age
  • Possess a high school diploma
  • Complete a volunteer application
  • Conduct an interview with William Tucker to work with children ages 6-12 in Franklin and David Swingler in Franklin to work with teens and Tamara Peay for the Fairview location.
  • Attend an orientation session.
  • Pass a criminal background check (any convictions for drugs, alcohol, DUI, violent crimes against children or any violent crimes will prohibit you from volunteering)   All volunteers are required to undergo this background check before working with children.

Volunteering as a Group

Co-workers, youth groups or school classes, civic organizations, social clubs, family, sororities, fraternities or alumni associations, social clubs or church group members are all encouraged to volunteer together.

Opportunities for group volunteering:
Are you part of a group who would like to volunteer? Let us help your group or organization find volunteer projects for you. We will work with your group coordinator to identify the special interests and skills of your group and match you with a Club that needs your help.

Tips for Volunteering as a Group:

  • One person from the group will need to be the primary group contact. This person will receive all communications on behalf of the group regarding volunteering, and be responsible for organizing and communicating with all group members.
  • What talents and experiences are volunteers interested in sharing in this group effort?
  • The group should take an assessment of all group members' availability for interests in and goals for a group volunteer activity. This will help you in choosing a group assignment, and ensure that everyone has a positive experience and that their expectations will be met.
  • Groups should be flexible with the types of volunteer projects they will consider doing. Sometimes, an activity that you would not have previously thought of doing can be the most rewarding.
  • If you are volunteering on behalf of an organization or company, you must make sure the organization or company supports the group volunteering activity and all the responsibilities such entails. If you are participating in an employee-based group volunteering activity on company time, or if you are taking vacation time to volunteer on behalf of the company, make sure you have permission and support from your immediate supervisor.
  • Organizations need sufficient lead time to place a group into a volunteering activity; for disaster relief situations, this can be immediate, but most organizations will need several weeks to prepare an assignment for your group.
  • Be dependable! Once your group has made a commitment to a volunteer project, the organization depends on your support.
  • Assess your project, to determine what worked and what didn't; and what types of activities the group would like to do in the future. Giving feedback to our organization is extremely helpful.
  • Celebrate the contributions your group has made! Thank everyone who has given their time and effort to volunteer.
